Be Sure Your Egg Will Find You Out

The life of a college student is very hectic and busy. The pockets of many college students like me are as holy as our ripped jeans. College is a time of learning and learning begins at home, as they often say. My home during my first two years of college was a nice one-bedroom apartment that was comfortable and warm inside when the winter winds blew cold and fierce outside--like it was this day.
This cold wintery dull day was finding me trying to mix up some brownies. I make them from scratch. I scratch the box mix open and it is brownie time! No big deal--mix, water, pan. I was all set smelling and tasting these brownies before I even started. I was determined to prove to the world that although my microwave macaroni was soggy and gooey and my cookies green and sticky, my brownies would be delicious!
Everything was set out--everything I needed. Mix, water, pan (nicely floured), oil...one egg? I looked in my fridge hoping for one egg. No eggs. Well, I thought to myself, did Mom use eggs? She did. Could I get by without one little ol' egg? It's just one lousy egg! What harm could it be to just skip the egg? After all, I reasoned to myself, eggs just hold the goop together. Not like vanilla or chocolate chips that add taste.
In when a little more oil. Just in case. I popped the brownies in the oven already licking my lips at what was to be ahead. The brownies smelled so good, but they looked a little flat to me when I peeked in on the cooking pan. Oh well, when they are done, they will look better. I took them out of the oven when the timer rang and looked at my creation, smelling that wonderful brownie aroma.
Those brownies were flatter than a pancake! And they were harder than a rock. The mix would not break even when I dumped it into the trash. The whole hardened lump went slipping into my trash can with a loud THUNK! Be sure your egg will find you out! That one egg was very necessary for this brownie mix and no substitute would work. What smelled so good, was completely inedible.
A lot like the Bible. You might wonder what a missing egg and the Bible have in common or relate in any way. Well, without the Bible in my life and in your life, our spiritual diet and relationship with Jesus is flatter than a pancake. Without the Bible in our daily lives, our hearts become hardened. I might say to myself, "Ah...one little skip in my Bible reading time today won't hurt." But like the one little ol' egg, those words from God not read that day make a big difference and I would be missing it! God wants you and I to really get to know Him and we can if we consistently spend time in our Bibles listening to what He has to say to us each day. Remember, "be sure your egg will find you out." A great place to start is the gospel book of John.
"Read your Bible and pray every day and you will grow, grow, grow!" Mama says!
